“Miracle” Sales Letter Increases Christian E‐Zine’s List Over 37%…In Just 4 Hours
Challenge:
Noted Christian author, Steve Kroening, writes Wisdom’s Edge, a weekly e‐magazine and website offering a myriad of resources for Christian businesspeople and their families. Wisdom’s Edge features some of the best tips on finances, health, marriage and relationships, parenting and education, and success – all with a reformed Christian worldview.
However, the website’s reach only extended as far as Steve’s immediate sphere of influence. Outside of metropolitan Atlanta, both Steve and Wisdom’s Edge were pretty much unknown in the spring of 2006. But Steve’s friend, Eric Lynch, was about to change all that.
Solution:
Eric knew that Steve’s biggest asset was his vast network of contacts in the Christian broadcasting and publishing. That being the case, the focus of the sales letter was to position Steve as the “portal” by which committed Christians could gain access to the wisdom of the leaders they look up to. As a result, Eric crafted persuasive copy that played up his strength…
Imagine if you had a network of wealthy and successful Christian friends always willing to help you with sage advice whenever you needed it. Friends who have been around the block a few times. And, yet refuse to compromise their stand for the gospel of Jesus Christ. Now imagine these seasoned experts sharing their life secrets with you, every week, all year long… How successful would you become? How much happier would you be? |
As we know, 40% of a sale lies in the list. So Eric and Steve started calling in some favors. They managed to gain the attention of Business Reform Magazine publisher, Ian Hodge. Ian was very receptive to the idea of publishing Eric’s opt‐in letter to Business Reform’s in‐house list of 15,000 subscribers.
Result:
The result was simply miraculous (no pun intended). The Wisdom’s Edge opt‐in promotion was promoted to 15,000 Business Reform subscribers. In a matter of only 4 hours, Wisdom’s Edge had netted an additional 450 subscribers. That’s a 3% day‐1 response that resulted in a 37% jump in subscribers to Steve Kroening’s Wisdom’s Edge. More subscribers opted in over the days that followed.
As a result of this successful quick start, Wisdom’s Edge has nearly 4000 subscribers. The same promotional letter still lives on wisdomsedge.com, pulling in more subscribers every day.
